With 1 million, 252 thousand hectares burned, we have now past last year as the worst wildfire season in the province’s history.
Chief Fire Information Officer Kevin Skrepnek says that, while the numbers are worse, this season has had significantly less of an impact on residents than last year’s.
According to Skrepnek, the massive jump over the past few days has more to do with better measurement than actual increases in fire size.
In fact, Skrepnek says that fire fighting efforts have been seeing much more success in recent days, which he expects to continue for the rest of the season.
