The Nisga’a Lisims government will only be allowing 25 bull moose to be harvested this year.
In a notice to Nisga’a moose hunters, the NLG says the low harvest number is due to an incomplete moose population survey.
Cows and calves won’t be harvested, and the 25 bull moose allocation will remain in place until a new survey can be conducted.
Any Nisga’a hunter interested in moose hunting in the Nass Wildlife Area will have to submit their name and hunting license number to the Nisga’a Fisheries and Wildlife office by noon this Friday.
There will be a random draw if more than 25 hunters apply. This year’s harvest will be held from November 1, 2016, to January 15, 2017.
The notice can be found here.
