A federal moratorium on tanker traffic off the North Coast is expected to be announced this fall.
The moratorium will cover Dixon entrance, Hecate strait and Queen Charlotte Sound and will in effect kill off the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline.
Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen says he’s cautiously optimistic.
He says this kind of moratorium helps different kinds of economies.
The Trudeau government plans to include the moratorium as part of their broader coastal strategy to protect the environment while using west coast ports to get the national economy moving.
