90% of Vancouver oil spill cleaned says Coast Guard

The coast guard says 90% of the fuel that spilled into Vancouver’s English Bay last week has been cleaned up.

Commander Jody Thomas confirms the actual size of the spill is still being measured after authorities said yesterday that the original estimate of 2,700 litres was conservative.

A report by the City of Vancouver says the spill was small and occurred during mild weather with little wind, which it calls the “best case scenario for a spill.”

Several Vancouver beaches remain closed and health authorities say they’re not sure when risks will be eliminated.
