Air quality in the Bulkley Valley is expected to remain poor until sometime Sunday.
The environment ministry has continued air quality advisories for Smithers and Houston as high concentrations of fine particulate matter remain in the region.
It’s advising people with chronic underlying health conditions to postpone any strenuous exercise until air quality improves. Exposure to fine particulates is a particular concern for infants, the elderly, and those with diabetes, heart, or lung disease.
Woodstove use is banned in the Town of Smithers and the District of Houston during the air quality advisories unless it is the sole source of heat.
Officials expect the pollution to hang around until Christmas eve.
