Air Canada’s Haida Gwaii summer schedule causing headaches

Air Canada’s summer schedule to Haida Gwaii is causing a headache for the airport shuttle service.

The morning flight into Sandspit has been pushed back an hour from 9:35am to 10:35am, and the afternoon flight has been changed by ten minutes to 3:10pm.

Eagle Transit runs the shuttle bus from the airport to the rest of Haida Gwaii.

Marilyn Wilkens is with Eagle Transit and she says for them, the changes mean increased costs and scheduling headaches.

Previously their driver would get on the 10:30am ferry and drop off passengers and be back at the airport on the 12:50pm ferry.

Wilkens does say Air Canada has been listening to their concerns.

Air Canada says the changes were done to synchronize with connecting flights for tourists heading to fishing lodges.

BC Ferries says they weren’t told of the flight changes, but will look at the new schedule to see if the Kwuna sailings can be adjusted.
