A small pilot project looking in to cleaner and cheaper heating in Bella Bella is now being expanded.
The initial 200 thousand dollar project made air source heat pumps the primary source of heating for 20 Heiltsuk homes.
With Air Quality up and heating prices down, the project is now looking to be expanded to 300 homes.
The heat pumps look to make up for the lack of natural gas based heating in an attempt to replace heating sources that contribute large amounts of greenhouse gases.
The new project will cost roughly 3 million dollars.
