Northern Health and the environment ministry have issued an air quality advisory for Smithers due to elevated pollution levels.
Officials say high concentrations of fine particulate matter are expected to hang around the airshed throughout the week.
People with chronic underlying medical conditions should postpone strenuous exercise until the advisory is lifted.
Exposure is a concern for infants, the elderly and those who have diabetes, and lung or heart disease.
Restrictions on open burning are now in effect for the Bulkley Timber Supply Area until Sunday December 10th at 9:00.
The use of woodstoves is prohibited within the Town of Smithers during the advisory unless the woodstove is the only source of heat.
