Alkali Lake and South Stikine fires grow to 30 thousand hectares

Efforts to quell the flames burning around Telegraph Creek are being expanded as the combined Alkali Lake and South Stikine Fires have ballooned to 30 thousand hectares.

According to information officer Heather Rice, there are now 136 firefighters and even more heavy equipment on site battling the blaze.

There has been no additional structure damage over the past two days as crews continue to focus their efforts on the protection of infrastructure and buildings.

Crews are expecting the fire to grow today with heavy shifting winds in the area.
