The combined Alkali Lake superfire is now the largest fire burning in BC, covering nearly 12 hundred square kilometres.
Crews today are attempting to slow the blaze’s rapid growth towards the community of Glenora by establishing new fireguards between the Winter and Dodjatin Creeks.
Yesterday, crews reestablished the fireguard on the northend of the fire threatening Highway 51 that had been dammaged when the fires combined.
There are more than 150 crew members, 8 helicopters, and 18 pieces of heavy equipment managing the fire today while one of BC’s six incident management teams coordinates the efforts out of Dease Lake.
