The Anglican Church of Canada will again apologize to Nisga’a survivors of the Indian Residential School system Wednesday.
Willard Martin says church officials agreed to address the entire Nation after three elderly ladies were not able to attend the original apology.
Martin, a residential school survivor himself, says he is pleased that the church agreed to come to the Nass Valley, but he says officials must act to help undo the harm and painful legacy of the residential schools.
Martin says there is concern the event will bring back painful memories and trauma, but he’s also hoping that survivors may also find a sense of closure.
Wednesday’s apology will take place at the Laxgalts’ap Community Centre.
