BC Hydro customers in Prince Rupert and Port Edward were in the dark for about an hour Thursday.
The utility says power was lost for thousands of customers when an avalanche knocked out the transmission line that feeds the North Coast communities west of Terrace.
Community Relations Manager Bob Gammer says the slide hit at about 12:16 Thursday and the gas fired generating station in Prince Rupert came online around 1:25, giving most customers power.
Gammer says the avalanche hit approximately 45 kilometres west of Terrace in an area where the line is on the south shore of the Skeena River.
BC Hydro says the gas-fired plant will keep the power on while crews determine a fix for the damaged infrastructure.
