Quesnel students in grade 8 and 9 won’t be getting a new junior school just yet, but it will be an updated facility.
The provincial government has announced $1.7 million dollars for the Quesnel School District to renovate and re-open Maple Drive Junior school which has been closed for 13 years.
The work will allow about 400 students currently attending Quesnel Junior to transition to Maple Drive after renovations are complete in March, 2018. The money will cover renovations, two portables, and moving school supplies and equipment.
The province says Quesnel Junior, which was built in 1950, is in need of significant repair.
The government says it’s a temporary solution which will allow the province and the district to explore longer-term options for junior school students while providing a safer learning environment.
