BC Hydro set a new record for summer power consumption.
Last night during the peak hourly demand they reached 7851 megawatts, the demand for electricity increased by 12% over last Monday’s peak of 7022 megawatts.
The new record breaks it’s the previous record set on August 11th, 2014 of 7468 megawatts.
This isn’t the first record broken this year, on January 3rd Bc Hydro recorded the highest ever hourly peak at 10,126 megawatts.
B.C. is fortunate to have a large hydro-electric system that can be counted on at all times of the year to respond quickly to changes in electricity demand that occur when temperatures reach extreme highs or lows.
