BC Hydro says it’s making good progress shoring up a transmission tower in the Bulkley Valley.
Recent flooding on the Bulkley and Telkwa Rivers began to erode the base of the tower, causing concern about its stability.
Hydro Community Relations Manager Bob Gammer says crews are building a road with rip rap to access the flooded site.
Once that’s complete, they’ll use a crane to support the tower while they armour the base and attach guy wires.
Gammer says water levels are dropping in the Telkwa and Bulkley Rivers, the forecast looks clear, and progress on the road to the site is going well.
However, while things look encouraging, he is advising residents in the region to prepare and be ready for a power outage if the situation changes for the worse.
The 138 kilovolt line services approximately 10,000 customers in the region.
