A report by the BC Federation of Students is calling for the fair regulation of tuition for international students.
According to the report, international students are a massive addition to the province’s economy, contributing over 3 billion dollars in spending each year, and adding 26 thousand jobs to the market.
The report finds this contribution at risk however, if the province doesn’t get their international tuition rates in check.
Currently BC has no cap on international student tuition increases, while domestic increases are capped at 2 percent.
As a result, BC rates have quintoupled since 1991.
BC has the second highest average rate of international tuition in the country, and according to the Federation, are already at risk of losing students to other provinces.
