BC “at the mercy of the weather” as over 220 wildfires burn

There are over 220 wildfires currently burning across British Columbia, but that number may change by the time you’ve finished reading this story.

BC’s Chief Fire Information Officer Kevin Skrepnek says the fires have burned through an estimated 23,000 hectares, but the situation remains so fluid, that could change depending on the weather.

Officials say the flames have forced an estimated 1800 people from homes in the Williams Lake area, 1200 near 100 Mile House, and quite possibly nearly 7000 in total.

Many evacuees have ended up in Kamloops and Prince George.  But with new fire starts around the Prince George region, some are worried about what that could mean for the city,

With reports of fuel and food starting to become more scarce in Prince George and transportation routes to the south in doubt, Emergency Management BC is working on advanced planning.

Chris Duffy with EMBC says that includes water, food, and fuel.
