The BC government and provincial nurses union have announced a plan to hire over 1,600 more nurses in British Columbia.
BC Nurses Union President Gayle Duteil calls the move, which aims to create 1,643 regular nursing positions by March 31st of this year, a positive step forward.
Northern Health is in line for 100 of the additional slots while Interior Health is expected to get 300.
As for where those nurses will come from, Health Minister Terry Lake says BC will focus close to home to start.
Lake says the province expects to spend about $500,000 to fill positions.
