The BC government is trying to make it easier for more heavy loads and oversized construction materials to get to the Northwest.
The province has announced that Highway 16 between Terrace and Kitwanga is now a pre-approved route for shipments of 85 tonne gross vehicle weight.
In a news release, the province says the addition of the stretch closes a gap in the 85-tonne route which will allow trucks hauling oversized loads have a continuous route from Alberta to Kitimat.
Transportation minister Todd Stone says the changes will benefit business and the shipping industry and help LNG, mining, energy, and forestry sectors as well.
Stone says the route will also be considered for further upgrades to allow for 125-tonne loads.
