BC to protect unique rainforest near Prince George

The provincial government is joining with a Prince George area First Nation and local hiking group to protect a rare rainforest.

The 10,000 hectare Ancient Forest, located about 120 kilometres east of Prince George, contains stands of giant red cedar, some over a thousand years old.

The BC government is working with the Lheidli T’enneh and the Caledonia Ramblers Hiking Society to ensure that the forest is preserved and eventually designated as a protected area.

Public consultation on the planning process for the Ancient Forest will begin this summer.
