The BC Nurses’ Union says an audit of Northern Health’s recruitment and retention of nurses echoes what its members have been saying for some time.
Carol Bellringer’s report found that the health authority was short 121 registered nurses across the north, leading to burnout, patient care issues, and high costs.
Acting BCNU President Christine Sorensen says the union is in full support of expanded nursing education, one of Bellringer’s nine recommendations, but she says that won’t solve today’s shortage.
Sorensen is calling on Northern Health to work together with nurses to address shortages.
Sorensen will be making that call when she visits BCNU members and Northern Health during an upcoming visit to Prince George.
