Resource benefits sharing in the Northwest was on the agenda as Premier John Horgan sat down with regional mayors in Kitimat Tuesday.
Horgan says he planned to talk about some of the options available going forward as he met with members of the Northwest BC Resource Benefits Alliance (RBA).
But the Premier says in order for benefits to flow, there has to be industry to grow.
The RBA publicly released its submission to the NDP government’s Rural Development Strategy public engagement process earlier this month, saying the region is “woefully unprepared” for future major project activity, including LNG.
RBA Co-Chair and Kitimat Mayor Phil Germuth, has stated that local government revenues are inadequate to prepare for possible large-scale economic activity.
