Better internet could be on its way to northern BC communities this summer.
Minister of Citizens’ Services, Jinny Sims, has announced a new 16 million dollar grant to improve connectivity in rural and Indigenous communities.
Internet service providers and other community based orginizations will be able to apply for the grant beginning in July.
Approved projects will deliver last-mile connections to remote homes and businesses, fulfilling the last step in bringing them high-speed internet services.
The grant is part of a 40 million dollar investment in to improving connectivity made by the government last year.
In addition, a further 83 million in funding has been announced to go towards coastal and rural communities specifically, and is expected to benefit approximately 69 First Nations communities.
