The Canadian Army’s 39th Brigade is holding it’s big training exercise in the Chilcotin region.
500 reserve soldiers from all over the province, as well as 50 American soldiers, are converging in the Chilcotin Training Area, about 50km west of Williams Lake for Exercise Cougar Destroyer.
Lt. Col. Nigel Whittaker says this exercise brings together all arms of the land forces together for training.
Lt. Col. Whittaker says they are keenly aware of the the level 4 drought conditions in the region, and are not using any pyrotechnics or open flames.
He says the public won’t be impacted by the training exercise, other than seeing the occasional small convoy leaving the area on Saturday and Sunday.
He adds that there will be full remediation of the area after the exercise, with follow up checks in a month.
