The Bulkley Valley Economic Development Association will be closing its doors.
The Board and staff at BVEDA were informed lat week that the Town of Smithers and the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako (RDBN) will no longer provide funding to the association as of January 1st, 2018.
Over the last 7 years, BVEDA has worked to promoted and facilitate economic development throughout the Bulkley Valley
Sean Rowell, Chair of the board of directors for BVEDA, says the association tried reaching out to town council, but he felt it wasn’t looking good.
BVEDA says it was working towards financial self-sufficiency, but it wasn’t there yet. The board has decided that without funding the prudent thing to do is to wind up operations.
Rowell adds the board will focus on the contract and obligations that BVEDA has and proceed from there.
CFNR has attempted to contact Smithers Mayor Taylor Bachrach for comment.
