Next week marks the beginning of the end of the old Lakes District Hospital in Burns Lake.
Northern Health says crews will begin demolition of the old building Monday, starting with hazardous material remediation and decommissioning of equipment.
Stuart Nechako Regional Hospital District Chair Jerry Peterson says it will be sad to see it officially torn down.
But Peterson says he’s also very pleased with the new facility, the same way people were happy with the old facility when it first opened in 1960.
The news Lakes District Hospital officially opened to the public February 4th.
The new facility has 16 beds and will provide acute care and emergency services, diagnostic imaging, lab services, and pharmacy.
The space left behind by the old hospital will be used for parking at the new facility.
Northern Health anticipates the new lot and landscaping will be done by late this coming summer.
