Burns Lake RCMP investigating after pedestrian struck and killed

RCMP are investigating after a fatal collision involving a pedestrian near Burns Lake Friday.

Police received two reports after 4 p.m. that day about a pedestrian walking down Highway 35.  The first caller, at 4:03, told RCMP about a person walking down the centre of Highway 35.  Just over a half-hour later, police received a second call describing a pedestrian dressed in black walking south on the south side of the Highway.

Burns Lake RCMP located the man and offered him a ride, but he refused and continued on his way.

At approximately 5:20, Burns Lake RCMP were called about a pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle in the 7200 block of Highway 35.  Ambulance crews took the 40-year-old man to hospital where he died of his injuries a short time later.

Burns Lake RCMP and the North District Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

RCMP contacted the Independent Investigations Office who determined there was no relation between the actions of police and the man’s death.
