Bulkley Valley Farmers Market @ Main St and Hwy 16 Smithers

You are invited to Bulkley Valley Farmers’ Market in Smithers to pick up some afternoon picnic supplies, groceries for the week, and Saturday dinner fixings from local farms and producers. Each week you’ll find a fresh selection of fresh and organic produce, meat, eggs, poultry, artisanal prepared food, baking and local honey. You will also find the unique talents of local artists and crafters who offer jewelry, wood-working, soaps, stained glass, sewing and much more. Pay a visit to this beautiful laid-back market where you can stop and chat with the producers, sip coffee and enjoy live music.

The ‘Northwest Artists’ exhibition is made up of multiple artists from the northwest: Kitimat, Terrace, Prince Rupert, and Smithers. ‘Fused Shards’ is a functional glass art exhibition by Elaine Farina from Kitimat. Together they are exhibiting their art in the Upstairs Gallery of the Kitimat Museum & Archives. This show is bursting with colours and textures that delight and awe the viewer. With the diversity of media and subjects, there is something for everyone.

Tales for Twos is a lively program for two-year olds and their parents or caregivers.  Enjoy stories, songs, ryhymes and activities just right for this exciting age group.

Story Hour is a hour-long program for the 3 – 5 year old crowd.  Each week we’ll explore a different them through stories, songs, action rhymes and colouring activities.

All programs are free of charge, but please pre-register by visiting the Library or calling us at 250-627-1345.

4th Annual Northwest PhotoFest @ Kitimat Museum & Archives

Each year the annual North West Photo Fest officially opens with a free public photography exhibition at the Kitimat Museum & Archives. The North West Photo Fest celebrates, promotes and explores the challenges of photography, and supports tourism in Kitimat and the northwest region. To participate in the North West Photo Fest exhibit, you must be a resident of the BC northwest (roughly within the boundaries of the Skeena Bulkley Valley federal riding), and your image must pertain to the northwest. The Museum will accept one image per participant representing this year’s them ‘The Wilderness Around Us’. The exhibition will run from August 9 – September 8, 2018

The Prince Rupert Public Library invites children in Kindergarten through Grade 6 to join in on the fun and games this summer.

Meet once a week at the library for stories, crafts and activities or sign up for the “Take a Trip” kit to use on holidays or at home if you can’t attend our programs.

Machine-O-vation! @ Smithers Public Library
Jul 25 @ 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

Darryl Hutcheon from Science World’s “Scientists & Innovators in the Schools” program presents this 90-minute interactive presentation for kids from grades 1 through 6. Volunteers from the audience will be able to conduct experiments to determine basic general rules that will be used to engineer some useful devices.
