The September 11 – October 12th, 2018 exhibition at Smithers Art Gallery is “This Mountain” by Smithers artist Mark Tworow.  This show focuses on Hudson Bay Mountain and our relationship to it. This exhibition is the first stage in a collaborative project with local writer Patrick Williston in what will become a book authored by Patrick with accompanying paintings, many of which are included in this show. Please join us and meet the artist at the opening reception on September 14, 7-9 pm – all welcome, free admission, refreshments provided. Artist Statement

Sarah Northcott (nee Cheevers) is a Canadian artist who lives in beautiful Smithers, British Columbia. She was born and grew up in Vancouver with a grandpa who loved to show her how to get her hands dirty in clay and paint.

Northcott has her work in several private collections across Canada and has shown in international and local galleries. For the last decade, she has been creating a unique painting process using acrylics and polymer. Her love for music and the natural world, as well as her academic pursuits have all influenced her artistic lens. Sarah has taken independent art workshops, and classes at ECUAD and Victoria College of Art.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Environmental Studies and in Education and a Masters in Strategic Leadership in Sustainability. Sarah is a teacher, facilitator and also a singer songwriter and musician who has released three independent albums.
