Cariboo campfire ban remains

While campfires are once again being allowed across many northern BC communities, the Wildfire Management Branch says that’s not the case in the Cariboo Fire Centre Area.
Despite cooler, unsettled weather in the last week, the fire danger rating in parts of the region is still high to extreme.
Officials say it would only take a couple of days of warm, dry weather to increase the wildfire risk, so campfires are still off limits in the Cariboo.
Wildfire crews have responded to eight lightning-caused fires in the Cariboo Fire Centre area this week.
Over 140 firefighters are trying to put out the new starts as well as the Puntzi Lake and Bald Mountain blazes.
