The BC Wildfire Service says a group of fires burning north of Highway 20 has now merged into one gigantic forest fire.
Chief Wildfire Information Officer Kevin Skrepnek says the Plateau Fire, as it is now called, is the largest blaze burning in the province at nearly 439,000 hectares.
Skrepnek says blaze stretches about 130 kilometres end to end; so large that two incident management teams have been tasked with fighting the flames.
Although the size is daunting, Skrepnek adds that it doesn’t mean fire activity is any more intense.
While there has been some rain and cooler temperatures, another cold front is expected in the province Wednesday and Thursday which could mean more wind and a possible uptick in fire behaviour.
