Cariboo wildfires 100% contained

BC Wildfire Service crews have fully contained the forest fire burning near Nazko and another smaller blaze near the Bonaparte River recreation site.

The Cariboo Fire Centre says 30 firefighters aided by a helicopter are continuing suppression efforts on the 400 hectare Nazko fire burning 3 kilometres south of the community.

The Bonaparte River rec area fire, located 15 kilometres southeast of 70 Mile House, is in the mop-up stage with 20 crew members on site looking for remaining hot spots to douse.

The Cariboo Fire Centre has responded to 39 wildfires since March 1.  All of them have been caused by people.

Category 2 and 3 open fires have been banned since April 4 throughout the fire centre area, meaning all fires other than campfires are prohibited.
