The province and the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council with seven Carrier Sekani First Nations have signed a Collaboration Agreement, as well as a Environmental and Socio-Cultural Initiatives Agreement.
The agreements covers skills training, education and language programs for community members.
Restoration and protection of natural resources is a focus of the agreements.
They’ll ensure that the seven Carrier Sekani First Nation community members can continue to exercise traditional uses of the land and resources, while also pursuing business ventures.
It also allows for Carrier Sekani input to be recognized and incorporated into natural resource development, including regulatory processes.
Terry Teegee, Tribal Chief of Carrier Sekani Tribal Council, says these agreements provide the opportunity to develop
mutually agreeable resource development plans for the Carrier Sekani territory for the continued benefit of all.
The combined territories of the Carrier Sekani First Nations under these agreements accounts for approximately 80,000 sq. km
