Carrier Sekani Tribal Council looking for witnesses to PG pepper spray death

The Carrier Sekani Tribal Council is asking anyone who witnessed an confrontation between police and a male member of the first nation to come forward.

They say the incident happened July 18th around 10:30 at night in the parking lot at Central Street West and 10th avenue near the burger king restaurant.

During the confrontation the RCMP officer pepper sprayed the individual to subdue him. He was arrested and placed in a patrol car. When he appeared to be having trouble breathing, police called for medical assistance, but he later dies in hospital. Now the Independent Investigation Office is looking into the death.

The IIO is looking for witnesses and perhaps smart phone video footage of the incident.

It’s believes a large number of people witnessed the arrest and there were also several occupied vehicles in the lot at the time.
