The BC Wildfire Service is warning those who plan on any outdoor burning in the Prince George Firs Centre today and throughout the long weekend to use caution.
Increased winds are forecasted over the next few days that could cause some abrupt wind-direction changes.
Winds are expected to range between 50 to 80 kilometres per hour and anyone looking to light an open fire must watch for changing weather conditions.
BC Wildfire Service is reminding people to have enough water and tools available to control the fire and prevent it from escaping, as well as avoiding burning in windy conditions.
There should be a fireguard at least one metre from the fire, cleared of brush and debris.
People should also consider conducting smaller burns around the perimeter to create a fuel break. Make sure to never leave a fire unattended and ensure your fire is completely extinguished, with ashes cold to the touch, before you leave the area.
