Unseasonably warm weather and an abundance of dead vegetation have the Northwest Fire Centre urging caution with any open burning.
Fire Information Officer Olivia Pojar says there are a number of factors to consider before you do any back yard burning.
Pojar says before you do any burning, it’s a good idea to check with the local fire department or local government about any burning restrictions or bylaws.
The Northwest Fire Centre says it hasn’t been called out to any wildfires so far this season.
The Cariboo Fire Centre has been called out to deal with 13 fires since the beginning of the month. The flames have scorched about 42 hectares. All of the fires were human-caused and resulted from grass burning or pile burning.
Dry conditions in the region have prompted officials to ban Category 2 and Category 3 fires as of noon April 4th.
