According to the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, immediate federal assistance is needed to curtail the mountain pine beetle infestation spreading across the country.
The Chamber says that warmer winters are allowing the well-known British Columbian pest to migrate to the eastern parts of Canada.
As a result, they are calling for 100 million dollars in federal funding to stall the spread of the ecosystem destroying insect.
A report from the Canadian Council of Forest Ministers estimates that BC has lost as much as half of its sellable pine timber between 1995 and 2015 as a result of the beetles.
