Higher standards are the focus of new BC building code changes slated for the end of the year.
Most of the changes are to make buildings more accessible to those with disabilities, helping to hold BC’s position as a leader in the field.
These changes will include: increased standards for retail shops and common areas of apartments and condos, and increases in wheelchair spaces and fixed seating in buildings where required.
On top of the accessibility changes, the new code will also promote the use of wood by supporting greater innovation and flexibility.
The new changes will take effect on December 10th of this year.
