The District of Kitimat says an “chemical incident” at the community pool Friday night forced the evacuation of the nearby arena.
Director of Economic Development Michael Dewar says there were no patrons at the Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre during the time of the incident and that all staff were unharmed and accounted for.
Dewar says the adjacent Tamitik Arena was temporarily evacuated, but emergency crews declared the facility safe and programming has resumed.
The District of Kitimat did not specify what type of chemicals were involved or what may have happened.
An update about the pool closure is expected by noon at the District of Kitimat website and Facebook page by noon Saturday.
The District says it appreciates the public’s patience with the temporary closure.
