Bill C-45 was a major topic of conversation at terrace council this week.
the main focus was on what steps need to be taken to ensure federal, provincial and municipal standards are met.
The legalization of marijuana for personal use should be finalized by July of this year.
Provinces are working on federal and provincial legislation but the municipality aspect in the Terrace area is still being ironed out.
Terrace City Councilor Michael Prevost says Terrace is taking its time to ensure all possible scenarios are looked at. especially when it comes to licensing and the distrubtion of marijuana.
Zoning and consumption play a major role in the proximity to schools, the legal age for purchasing marijuana and what the legal limit will be for driving under the influence.
another concern that has been brought into consideration is if legalization will fuel the black market sales of marijuana or dim it down.
CFNR spoke with a source that said ‘in terms of black market sales, the plan is to make it cheaper and better than the regulated pot for sale.’
Coming up on Monday we will have a full report including RCMP feedback on the regulations as well as black market comments.
