With the legalization of cannabis just around the corner, the City of Quesnel has begun preparations regarding the sale and public restrictions of the substance.
During yesterday’s regular meeting, council approved the first 3 readings of a new bylaw which will regulate public vaping and cannabis use.
The proposed bylaw will modify the existing smoking regulation bylaw to prohibit vaping in City public spaces, on top of provincial resitrictions, prohibit the use of cannabis in all public lands and facilities to match current alcohol rules, and establish a 50 dollar fine for the public use of cannabis, tobacco or any other plant or herb substance.
In addition, council agreed to allow one cannabis retail shop in the downtown area which would be publicly owned and regulated by the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch.
