A Canadian Coast Guard vessel has arrived to assist a stranded container ship southwest of Haida Gwaii.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria says the Sir Wilfred Laurier arrived at midnight and is stationed near the MOL Prestige which had an engine fire Thursday.
The JRCC says the fire is out and crew members aboard the stranded cargo ship are continuing to inspect and monitor the vessel’s engine space.
Two crew members were airlifted to hospital for medical treatment Thursday, but there is no update on their condition.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre says a tug is en route and expected to arrived at the scene sometime this weekend.
