Coastal GasLink has been granted a temporary injunction against a Unist’ot’en camp that had threatened their pipeline project.
A BC Supreme Court ruling made in Williams Lake on Friday means the corporation will be able to begin work on their 670 km pipeline as early as today.
The Unist’ot’en, who are members of the Wet’suwet’en Nation, had set up the camp near the Morice River bridge in an attempt to halt construction of the pipeline in their territory.
As a result, Coastal GasLink filed a civil suit for a permanent injunction and financial damages against the camp in late November.
The court cited minimal work being done in the area in 2019, and the Unist’ot’en’s willingness to allow Canfor to conduct work in the area as reasonings for the ruling.
Defendants will be able to file civil responses until January 31st as part of the temporary ruling, with the temporary injunction in place until no later than May 1st of next year.
