Coastal Fire Ban

Effective as of Noon Thursday, July 6th, all open fires, including campfires will be prohibited throughout the coastal fire region, with the exception of Haida Gwaii and the area along the coast known as the ‘fog zone’.

The implementation of this prohibition is due to increasing temperatures and lack of precipitation in the forecast. The prohibition will be effective until October 21st of this year.

Marg Drysdale is the BC Fire information officer with the coastal fire center, she says “the prohibition does apply to CSA rated or ULC rated cooking stoves and you can use your propane fires or campfires that are propane, that is allowed”Drysdale adds that bonfires, fireworks, firecrackers, sky lanterns and burn barrels are also included, also included in the prohibition are binary exploding targets for the gun enthusiasts who shoot in the back woods.
