“Conditional” decision expected from Petronas in weeks

Malaysian energy giant Petronas is expected to make a decision about whether it plans to forge ahead with a proposed liquefied natural gas plant near Prince Rupert in the very near future.

According to a published report, the company’s President and Group CEO says it will announce a “conditional” final investment decision for Pacific Northwest LNG in the coming weeks.

The development comes after the company reached an agreement related to the $36 billion project with the BC Government Wednesday.

Petronas says it also continues to engage with the Lax Kw’alaams Band despite its rejection of a billion-dollar deal for the LNG facility based on concerns about its location near critical salmon habitat.
