A nasty encounter with a grizzly bear has left a hunter with injuries to his arms and hands.
BC Conservation Officer Cam Schlay says the incident occurred last Saturday afternoon near Morin Lake by Smithers.
He says the hunter was stepping over a log when he encountered the grizzly.
The area is currently closed, but will reopen once conservation officers confirm the grizzly was killed or put down the injured bear.
Schlay encourages hikers in the backcountry to make lots of noise or go in large groups, and for hunters to be vigilant.
He adds in this incident, the hunter didn’t do anything wrong, and it was simply bad luck.
