Controlled burns to be conducted south and west of Williams Lake

The province will be conducting a number of prescribed burns in the Cariboo region from the beginning of April to mid-May.

The burns will include 150 hectares at the Doc English Lake area south of Highway 20 on both sides of Cotton Road, and 70 to 100 hectares at Bald Mountain on the west side of Farwell Canyon Road at the six-kilometre mark.

Natasha Broznitsky with the Cariboo Fire Centre says the controlled burns will help restore natural grassland ecosystems.

Smoke from these fires may be visible from nearby communities and the burns will only be conducted during suitable conditions.
