Cooperation was the key theme at last night’s gathering of the First Nations LNG Alliance in Prince Rupert.
Both Gitxaala hereditary and elected chiefs were present for the meeting, agreeing that the LNG industry offered a unique economic and developmental opportunity, if they were willing to work together.
More than 1 billion dollars in total revenue, as well as numerous employment opportunities are on the table for First Nations if they are willing to work with LNG Canada and their partners.
Gitxaala elders present at the gathering also spoke, saying that the opportunities were too great to ignore, so long as the environment is cared for.
Alliance CEO Karen Ogen-Toews praised the Gitxaala hereditary and elected chiefs for their history of cooperation, saying they were a beacon of hope for her own Wet’suwet’en Nation.
