Crews have begun the process of carefully releasing gas trapped inside a luxury fishing barge that ran aground in Haida Gwaii this weekend.
The Hippa Barge, owned by Westcoast Resorts, came loose on Saturday night and drifted to ground near the Village of Queen Charlotte.
Crews on site finished the initial inspection of the barge yesterday using air quality monitors to ensure safety.
Today crews are focused on releasing the gases trapped inside, possibly caused by a ruptured fuel line, and opening up hatches on the barge to create natural vents.
