CRTC grants Vancouver radio licence to CFNR

Some big news for the CFNR network today.
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has granted CFNR a licence to start a new radio station in Vancouver to serve the Indigenous communities in the region.
CFNR CEO Greg Smith says he was confident in the station’s application even through it was up against some big name competition.

Smith says today is a day for celebration, but tomorrow CFNR will get back to work.
Technical and Program Director Craig Ellis says there’s still a long road ahead.

The CRTC granted five new radio licences to better serve Indigenous people in urban areas, noting the important role broadcasting plays in reconciliation between Indigenous peoples and Canadian society.
